OUR FLIPN' STORY
Opening up a family restaurant has always been a life dream of Jamila and Huntley Nicholson, Founders of Flipn' Fries Factory.
For years husband and wife team, Huntley and Jamila Nicholson, dreamed of opening what they thought would have been a Caribbean restaurant one day. The couple set out looking for locations in the Tampa Bay area, but after years of searching for a location the Nicholson's came to a dead end with either unavailable or overpriced units. Their dream was was placed on hold in the hopes of finding better locations one day.
Flipn’ Fries Factory came about on a whim during the turn of the pandemic. The couple noticed fast-food was thriving during the pandemic. Some restaurants had record breaking numbers. People wanted quick and affordable options to eat at where they didn’t necessarily have to dine in.
Everybody loves fries. You can find loaded fries on every dining menu at restaurants...as a side. The couple thought making fries the main course, as its been popular in Canada for decades, would be a fun way to tap into the restaurant industry they dreamed of being a part of. Though they were faced with the risk of opening up a restaurant in a shaky economy, they saw an opportunity and a great concept that would also sustain during hard times.
"We had no name, no menu, nothing at the time, just a vision and drive."
The couple quickly approached the developer at the Krate with the idea and he loved it. The next day, the couple secured their lease and the rest is history. "We had no name, no menu, nothing at the time, just a vision and drive. Our kids played a major role in giving us creative inspiration throughout the entire journey. " said Jamila.
After almost 2 years of planning, the Nicholson's opened Flipn’ Fries Factory on National French Fry Day 2022. They are now the first specialty french fry restaurant concept in the Tampa Bay Area with a fast growing customer base - serving up tasty gourmet loaded fries in a “fast-social” environment.
The team plans to expand into future markets and use their platform to bring opportunities within the communities they serve in hopes of inspiring dreamers who are afraid to step out and live out their dreams.
